World Cup champion attacks Mbappe: ‘Failed’ captain
Former French international Emmanuel Petit has attacked his compatriot Kylian Mbappe after the latter’s lacklustre performance in the European Cup, from which the “Les Bleus” team was eliminated on Tuesday by Spain.
The programme broadcast on Radio Monte Carlo began with Mbappé saying: “Either you are good or you are not, and I was not good, so we are going home,” before Petit exploded in opposition: “For me, he is not a good leader after sending messages like this.”
He added: He was not like that in his leadership, and also his media statements during the tournament were not good for his teammates, when he said that due to Pogba’s absence he was not going deep much, and that Griezmann was not playing a special tournament personally, these are not the qualities of a leader.
He continued his attack: “Excuse me, what is this talk about the mask and the broken nose? We do not care about that and you are not the only one who broke his nose on a football field and you will not be the last. What worries me is that he claimed that he deserved the armband, but he is not a captain and I did not see him for a single moment meeting with his teammates. He is the first person responsible for the elimination, specifically that the rate of his confrontations with Paris in the last six months did not exceed one match out of every two matches, which was supposed to help him appear better physically.”
